Airstream Furnace Install – Vintage RV 1974 Airstream Safari
The Waystream came to us with an empty furnace cavity. Our 1974 Airstream Safari had ducting, vents and an open space from its original furnace. With young kids a catalytic heater wasn’t for us. Last year we camped with a space heater but we felt limited since we needed to be be plugged into electricity. We knew replacing our airstream furnace was the solution for us. With a google search, scan through AirForums, and a post in the Facebook group Vintage Airstream Addicts we ordered the Suburban NT-30SP Furnace ($629.99 with shipping).
“The ducted Suburban NT Series propane gas furnaces were used in Airstreams and other vintage trailers from the 1970s and later. The styles have changed somewhat, but they are generally the same size and shape as the originals, making them the proper replacement furnace for older NT units of a similar BTU rating.” – Vintage Trailer Supply
The Suburban thermostat still needs installed, and we are replacing the RV carbon monoxide/propane gas detector since we don’t know the installation date for the current detector. John also took the opportunity to tidy up some wiring, plus he moved and improved the switch for our hot water heater. Colorado leaves are turning and nights are getting cooler. We can’t wait to boondock soon and enjoy the flexibility of propane powered heat in The Waystream.
